Illiana Watermelon Association Convention

We held our 21st Annual Convention at the Casino Aztar Hotel in Evansville, Indiana. This year's theme was "Island Luau".  The hotel staff put out the red carpet for us with a "whole pig" luau for the President's reception on Friday evening.  Again, the watermelon seed spitting contest was loads of fun.  Afterwards some just hung out in the meeting room, while others "went to the boat" (casino).

Everyone agreed the food and accommodations were great.  We heard news from the NWPB, the Indiana Department of Agriculture and discussed food safety issues in Saturday's general session.  Afterward, we held our annual fund raising auction.  We wish to thank our donors , buyers, and sponsors for this year's events.

At Saturday night’s banquet, our new queen, Miss Sylvia Lane Crowder  was crowned by our outgoing queen Johnna Thompson.  Our judges selected her from 4 lovely contestants who competed during the course of the convention in categories such as Speech, Sportswear, Personal Interview, Video Interview, Evening Gown and others.
